Christmas window dressing
November 30th, 2012 by Theme Production
When I was little I wanted to be window dresser, as I grew up the creativity of the themes still greatly appealed to me. This is perhaps why I grew up to become an event planner to create these beautifully lit tableaus of gorgeousness just on a slightly different platform.
December fuels my obsession for Christmas window dressing in London! Harvey Nichols, Harrods and Selfridges all battle it out for the number one spot each year. In my opinion this years winner is Harvey Nichols (middle image below) as they are exciting, exuberant and an assault on the senses – almost like staring into a box of Quality Street! Harrods (below right) have gone with fairytale Disney Princess theme which is beautifully lit and very well considered. Sadly I am, however, disappointed with Selfridges (below left) Christmas window dressing this year, to me they’ve tried to be a bit too clever. I don’t quite get the ‘boxer in the ring’ connection and the iconic yellow colour of Selfridges seems to be at odds with ‘Christmas’. Style is of course subjective and you may ardently disagree!
I’m probably looking at the Christmas window dressing displays with my event mind. An event [window display] that makes you go ‘wow’ as it’s filled with colour, vibrancy and interest is preferential to me to an event [window display] that is pared back and overly subtle!
Happy window shopping everyone, each store is definetley worth a look!
